It is our goal to provide you with a working concept of digital photography and a deeper knowledge of the technical aspects and capabilities of your DSLR. Be sure to bring your camera’s User Manual for reference to some of the more obscure features.
Manual controls and settings will be emphasized and practiced through-out the cruise and on shore excursions. For this reason, users of Point & Shoot cameras should confirm that their camera model is capable of allowing independent manual setting of the aperture, shutter speed and ISO. All of the major manufacturers have high end P&S models that offer these capabilities. Neil Eschenfelder has many years of in depth experience with Olympus, Sony/Minolta, Canon and Nikon, and can answer any questions you may have about these brands. If you are using a brand other than these, make sure you bring your Users Manual and a solution will be found.
For those of you that use film SLR cameras, most of the manual control settings will be similar to those of DSLR cameras and facilities are available on board for you to have your film developed.
We will be discussing in detail, the magic trilogy and most important adjustments of Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO. Once you understand and have mastered these three settings, great photography is just around the corner. Lens types, Depth of Field, Exposure, Lighting and Composition will also be covered in depth. As a bonus, we will be discussing People Photography. Learn the best practices in photographing people and integrating them into your travel photographs. All this and much more will be taught during our 15 day cruise! For a detailed look at the course schedule click here.
We will gather on February 26th to share our photographs and participate in a group critique. A good time will be had by all - you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll wish you'd fallen overboard!
